Engineer, Designer, Developer

Hello, I'm Cruz. I am currently a college student working full-time as a Manufacturing Engineer at a Silicon Valley robotics startup.

About Me

Hello! I’m an engineering student with a strong passion for robotics and a solid foundation in both mechanical design and software development. In my current role as a manufacturing engineer, I manage information systems and lead the implementation of engineering infrastructure, with a particular focus on CAD and PLM. I drive the integration of these tools to enhance efficiency, streamline workflows, reduce engineering development release times, and support engineering projects. When I'm not focused on engineering infrastructure, I take on design work, applying my mechanical design skills and gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Recent Experience

Manufacturing Engineer

This is my current position. I am leading the implementation, administration and support of critical engineering tool/application infrastructure.

Mechanical Designer

Managed CAD data and provided design support for various teams, including designing test fixtures to evaluate robotic subsystems. Responsible for BOM management, drawing/drafting, and participated in design reviews. Gained extensive experience with C#, C++, and Python, utilizing these skills to create applications and scripts that automated repetitive engineering tasks.

One key accomplishment was leading the successful company-wide transition (~100 affected users) to Teamcenter and NX.

Hardware Database Administrator

Facilitated the integration of engineering software systems to ensure smooth data exchange and improve operational efficiency. Leveraged expertise in programming languages such as C#, C++, VBA, SQL, and Python to develop custom solutions, automate workflows, and enhance system performance. Utilized the Win32 API and .NET framework to build and maintain Windows-based applications, driving critical software functionality and supporting various engineering processes.

One of my most popular applications, one used for BOM export, parsing, and publishing, was used over 17 times a day on average, saving ~8.6 hours of engineering work every 24 hours.

Hobbies & Projects

ROV

Working in a team of four to build a submersible capable of visiting a PB4Y Bomber in Lake Washington at a depth of 175'.

Wind Tunnel

Worked with some friends and built a wind tunnel to demonstrate lift principles to younger students at a community event.
